  1. SCRIBE QUICK-START GUIDE
  2. ========================

  4. This short introduction is to enable you to get started with SCRIBE without 
  5. having to read the full instruction manual. However, to get the full 
  6. benefit of the program you are recommended to read it as soon as you can.
  7.  
  8. WHAT IS SCRIBE?
  9. ---------------
  10.  
  11. SCRIBE is a fast, versatile and easy-to-use text editor program. Up to ten 
  12. documents can be held in memory at the same time, and there are ten 
  13. independent clipboards. Marked blocks of text can be freely copied and 
  14. moved between documents. Full search and replace facilities are provided. 
  15. Documents can be printed, with headers and footers.

  17. GETTING STARTED

  20. SCRIBE can be run from any disk drive, and within any folder. The following 
  21. files should all be together, either in the same folder, or in the root 
  22. directory of the disk (i.e. not in any folder):-

  24. SCRIBE.PRG - The SCRIBE program
  25. SCRIBE.RSC - The resource file
  26. SCRIBE.HLP - The on-line help file
  27. SCRIBE.DEF - The file of default settings for SCRIBE
  28.  
  29. To run SCRIBE, double-click on the SCRIBE.PRG icon. When the program has 
  30. initialised, you can type text into it just like a word processor. The text 
  31. will word-wrap at the end of lines, and will automatically re-format itself 
  32. during all editing operations.

  34. All of the major functions are available from the drop-down menus, and 
  35. these are also all duplicated by keyboard alternatives. The keyboard 
  36. commands are shown in the drop-down menus; the symbol '^' indicates 
  37. <Control>, and '@' indicates <Alternate>.

  39. If you press the Help key, a short version of the instruction manual will 
  40. be displayed on-screen. Follow the instructions to view this document.
